Former XV Corps GOC Lt. Gen. Ata Hasnain appointed as new Chancellor of Central University of Kashmir
Srinagar: As per the statement released by Central University of Kashmir’s Registrar M Afzal Zargar, the former 15 Corps GoC Lt. Gen. Ata Hasnain has been appointed as the new Chancellor of the University for a term of five years.
“The President of India in his capacity as the Visitor of the Central University of Kashmir has been pleased to appoint Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain, Former Military Secretary, Indian Army as the Chancellor of the University,” the statement sent from Registrar’s office read.
Earlier, Lt. Gen. Hasnain’s name was doing rounds as the next governor of the state.
As a Brigadier, Hasnain served in Jammu and Kashmir as Commander, 12 Infantry Brigade, on the Line of Control, near the town of Uri. He later commanded 19 Infantry Division in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, as a Major General, serving under the overall direction of XV Corps.
In October, 2010, he returned to XV Corps in Kashmir, as the GOC.
As GOC of XV Corps, he conceived and operationalised the “heart as a weapon” doctrine.
