Protesters beat up constable after charred body of minor boy found in Kupwara

Srinagar: A constable Ghulam Mohiudin was thrashed in Kupwara as people were protesting after a half burnt body of a minor boy was found from a nallah.

The constable of district special branch (DSB), was injured after being beaten up by some youth during overnight protests in Batergam village of the district, reports said.

Mohiudin was on duty when he was thrashed and kept confined to a house by angry protesters. The constable was saved by Assistant Superintendent of police Kupwara and other officials. He was then taken to District Hospital Kupwara for treatment where from he was referred to Handwara hospital for advanced treatment, an official said. An FIR has been lodged into the case.

On Friday, north Kashmir’s Kupwara observed a complete shutdown against the killing of a minor boy of Batergam. Protests were also reportedly held in Kralepora, Trehgam, Kupwara, Gulgam and Batergam areas of the district against the killing.

Local sources have stated that passenger traffic is off the roads while as shops and business establishments closed in the area.

Umer Farooq Malik, son of Farooq Ahmad Malik, resident of Batargam village of Kupwara went missing after he left home on Monday afternoon. The body of the boy was recovered in Gushi village with serious burn injuries. Some witnesses said that one of the hands were also cut.

A special investigation team has been constituted to probe into the killing of Umer, police said.
