Srinagar: A man was shot dead in an attempt to enter the residence of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah in Jammu.

Reports said a person travelling in a car broke the security barricade and attempted to enter the Bhatindi residence of Abdullah.

The forces deployed there shot the person dead, they said. An on-duty officer also received injuries in the incident.

Sources told Free Press Kashmir that Abdullah is currently in Srinagar and not in his Bhatindi residence.

SD Singh Jamwal, IG of Jammu Zone, in a statement said, “there was an attempt of forceful entry into the house (Farooq Abdullah) by an individual named Murfas Shah, resident of Poonch. He forced his way through the VIP gate in an SUV. He was unarmed. Investigation is underway.”

Further details awaited.
