Article 35-A row: Amarnath Yatra temporarily suspended

Posted on

The ongoing Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended due to the shutdown called by the Resistance leaders as well as the civil society against the abrogation of the Article 35-A.

According to the police, no pilgrim was allowed to move from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu.

Special check-posts have been set up in Udhampur and Ramban to ensure that the movement of pilgrims does not take place on the Jammu-Srinagar highway which passes through these two districts.

However, pilgrims camped at the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps in the Valley will continue to perform the Yatra, officials said.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chairman of Hurriyat (M) on Friday said that the tinkering with Article 35 A is not just an attempt to dilute the disputed nature of the state but an assault on the very existence of JK.

More than 300 Lawyers of Jammu region on Friday unanimously passed a resolution for strengthening and retention of Article 35-A of the Constitution of India.
