Noted visionary poet, Syed Akbar Jaipuri to be remembered today

The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages (JKAACL) in collaboration with Akbar Jaipuri Memorial Committee, will hold a commemoratory function in memory of a noted poet, Syed Akbar Jaipuri at 1.30 pm today. The function will be held in the Seminar Hall of the Academy in Lal Mandi.

Syed Akbar Jaipuri was born on 23 October, 1928 in Jaipuri and was a Kashmiri Urdu poet and visionary. His father, Syed Ali Al-Hussaini was a religious scholar. Akbar is famously known to be blood-related to revered saint and mystic, Mir Syed Ali Hamadani.

On returning to Kashmir with his siblings, Akbar was already well known and established due to his poetry. His captivating use of the language along with splendid craftmanship carved a niche for him in the valley as well. He was called Mujahid- e-Urdu and Mir Taqi Mir Sani.

His writings still echo on the streets of the valley today. His poem ‘Maaro Ya Marjao’ is a timeless example of his progressive and revolutionary writings.
