Joint search operation to nab suspected militants along JK highway enters second day

Srinagar: The joint search operation to track suspected militants who had managed to flee after opening fire in Jajjar Kotli area remained on track for the second consecutive day.

Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force and army jointly carried out the search operation in Jhajjar and its adjoining villages and along the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

A police official said that three suspected militants slipped into nearby woods after forces intercepted the truck in which they were travelling yesterday morning.

Restrictions were also imposed on the flow of traffic along Nagrota-Jhajjar Kotli stretch of the highway, where currently, a massive search operation is underway.

All educational institutions within the Tikri Zone were shut on Thursday as a precautionary measure.

Earlier, a CRPF man was injured after suspected militants travelling on a truck fired at a CRPF naka party in Jajjar Kotli area along the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Wednesday. The injured man, identified as Domesh Dass, has been shifted to a hospital for treatment.A police spokesman stated that an AK-47 rifle and three magazines were recovered from the truck. Both the truck driver and the conductor have been taken into custody.

“One AK & 3 magazines recovered from the intercepted truck. Dvr,conductor taken into custody. 2-3 suspected militants who ran away from the truck are being chased.police army and Crpf activated.Cordon &search operation is on ahead of suketar v near Katra crossing National Highway,” police said in a statement via Twitter.
