Houses belonging to close relatives of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Riyaz Naikoo were allegedly vandalized by armed forces in Beighpora village of Awantipora area in Pulwama district.

According to reports, forces barged inside the houses of Nazir Ahmad Naikoo and Nisar Ahmad Naikoo and carried out searches. During the searches, the local alleged that the forces ransacked their belongings.

The operation, according to an official, was carried out following inputs about the existence of Riyaz Naikoo’s hiding place.

Search lights were installed near Jamia Masjid Wani Mohalla of Beighpora and a JCB was also pressed into service that dug up the park of Jamia Masjid Beighpora besides the courtyard of Naikoo’s relatives.

A top police official of the district, however, denied the allegations of ransacking of houses. He said searches were carried out following inputs about the presence of a hideout.

Recently Riyaz Naikoo’s father, Asadullah Naikoo, 70, was ‘arrested’ by the armed forces in a nocturnal raid from his Beighpora residence in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. However, he was released after 11 family members of police officials were kidnapped by militants in different areas across Kashmir.

Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo had reportedly tweeted about the kidnappings warning the armed forces about a ‘tit for tat’ after Naikoo’s father was arrested by the armed forces in a night raid on August 30.
