Two militants killed in Kreeri gunfight, say cops
Srinagar: In the gunfight that broke out in Kreeri area of Baramulla on Thursday, two militants have been killed.
A police officer told news agency GNS that two militants were killed in the gunfight at Athoora area of Kreeri.
A gunfight had erupted after army’s 29 RR, special operations group (SOG) of police and CRPF laid a siege around Utoora village of Kreeri and started search operation.
They said militants hiding in a house opened fire upon the search team in a bid to escape from the cordon.
“The fire was retaliated leading to outbreak of encounter. In the exchange of fire, two militants were killed,” officials sources said.
The identity of the two slain militants is yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, a shutdown is being observed in the valley against the killing of scholar-turned- militant Sabzar Sofi and his aide Asif Gojri.
Shops, public transport and other businesses remained shut in the city and other districts of the valley and only private transport was seen in the uptown areas of Srinagar.
