Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday addressed the congregation in Jamia Masjid after three weeks and called for unity among all sections of the society, saying Kashmiris “are going through worst phase of oppression.”

Mirwaiz, in his Friday sermon said the people of Kashmir should exhibit mass unity among all sections of the society the way people united against the assault on Article 35-A.

Mirwaiz said Kashmiri people were ‘going through worst phase of oppression.’ “All rights; religious, social and political are being usurped,” Mirwaiz said.

His comments come at a time where there is turmoil in the region, with reports of militants carrying out sniper attacks, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) summoning prominent Shia religious leader Aga Syed Hassan, killings of scholars-turned-militants Mannan Wani and Sabzar Sofi, Kashmiri students being ‘targeted‘ in Indian universities and Kashmir related news and incidents being censored on Facebook and the carnage in Kulgam which killed seven civilians.
