Ousted Pak PM Nawaz Sharif sentenced seven year prison time for corruption case
Fined $2.5 million in Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference
Acquitted in the Flagship Investments reference
An accountability court in Pakistan on Monday handed ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif seven years in jail and a fine of $2.5 million in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference, and acquitted him in the Flagship Investments reference, Dawn News reported.
According to the report, the PML-N leader is expected to be transported to Adiala Jail shortly.
It said the verdict was announced almost immediately after Sharif arrived in the courtroom.
“Accountability Judge Arshad Malik while reading out the short order said that there was no case against Nawaz in the Flagship reference,” the report said.
The short order said that the burden of proof lies on Nawaz in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case.
Nawaz’s lawyer Khawaja Haris requested that the PML-N quaid be shifted to Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail instead of Adiala Jail.
The court has reserved its verdict on the request and asked for Nawaz’s medical reports.
