I am not only Governor but CM too, says Malik; Consult Vohra for guidance, retorts Akhtar

Srinagar: Governor Staya Pal Malik has said that he is not just the governor of the but the Chief Minister as well.

He added, in that capacity of someone daily abuses the Government, as a Representative of the President of India, he has to put forth the view of the Government.

According to a report by the Daily Excelsior, after attending a function in Katra, Malik said the Raj Bhawan is not meant for playing golf alone.

“Tell me whether the Governor House is meant for playing Golf all the time?”, he asked.

Replying to a question on criticism by PDP and National Conference that he has been making political statements, Malik said the Governor’s House is representative of the President of India and there is a President’s Government in New Delhi.

“If you daily abuse that Government, somebody has to reply that. I do keep viewpoint of my Government before the people,” he said, adding that he wasn’t only the Governor but the Chief Minister as well.

“I’m not only the Governor of the State but the Chief Minister also. I have to give my view point,” he asserted.
Reiterating his full support to armed forces, Malik said: “I fully stand by my forces. I’m with my Army”.

Reacting to his statement, PDP leader Naeem Akhtar said that that Malik should consult LK Jha and NN Vohra for guidance.


Recently, Malik had said that the no one should take former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti seriously as her party is breaking up.

Reacting to the statement of Governor Malik,  senior PDP leader Nayeem Akhtar had said that he is proving BJP state President Ravinder Raina correct who had called him ‘Apna Banda (our own man).

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah had also hit out at the Governor saying that it won’t be long before people stop taking Raj Bhavan seriously.

Moreover, senior PDP leader Sartaj Madni had said that If Governor keeps indulging in theatrics, Raj Bhavan will become a joke.
