JeM claims responsibility of Lethpora blast, says ‘Pulwama resident carried out Fidayeen attack’

Srinagar: Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility of the attack on the CRPF convoy at Lethpora area on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in which at least 12 personnel have been killed and dozens wounded.

A JeM spokesperson Muhammad Hassan in a statement issued to news agency GNS said “dozens of forces’ vehicles were destroyed in the attack”.

The spokesperson identified the driver (of JeM) who carried out the ‘fidayeen’ attack as Aadil Ahmad alias Waqas Commando of Gundi Bagh, Pulwama.

A report by the GNS, quoting an officer, said that around 3:15 pm, militants rammed the car fitted with explosives into the CRPF bus, triggering off an intensive blast.

The officer said that twelve CRPF men were killed in the blast and thirteen others seriously wounded were shifted to army’s 92 base hospital.

Following the blast the traffic has been suspended on the highway as forces cordoned off the entire area and launched searches.
