Pulwama gunfight: Civilian, four army men killed, fresh exchange of gunfire at site

Srinagar: A civilian and four army men, including a Major, were killed and an army man wounded in a gunfight in Pinglena area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.

Quoting reports, news agency GNS said that a joint team of army’s 55 RR, CRPF and SOG launched a cordon and search operation during early hours today following inputs about the presence of some militants.

As the joint team of forces intensified the searches and fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot, the militants opened fire triggering off a gunfight, the report stated.

In the course of the gunfight, four army men including a Major were killed.

An officer identified the killed army men as Major DS Dondial, Head Constable Seva Ram, Sepoy Ajay Kumar and Sepoy Hari Singh.

The critically injured army man, identified as Sepoy Gulzar Mohd, was evacuated to army’s 92 base hospital Badamibagh Srinagar for treatment, he said.

A civilian namely Mushtaq Ahmad is said to have received critical injuries and died during the exchange of gunfire, the GNS report stated.

Meanwhile, a fresh exchange of gunfight resumed after more than three hours at the gunfight site, the report stated.
