Spontaneous shutdown, protest in various parts of valley against alleged rape of 3-year old

Srinagar: In the aftermath of the alleged rape of a three year old girl spontaneous shutdown is being observed in parts of Srinagar on Monday.

The shutdown comes in the wake a call by Moulana Abbas Ansari led Itehadul Muslimeen. Reports said that the shops and business establishments are closed in parts of the capital city while the skeptical movement of traffic is visible on the roads.

Reports said that protests were being held in Alamgari Bazar and Saida Kadal areas of the city. The protesters are demanding action against the accused who is in police custody. A heavy deployment of Armed forces has been made in downtown Srinagar particularly the volatile Nowhatta area.

Meanwhile, protests also erupted at various places in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Demanding exemplary punishment against the accused, protesters assembled at Hygam in Baramulla and blocked the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway for several hours.

Moreover, the students and the faculty members of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora in south Kashmir also protested against the horrific incident.

Reports said that the teaching as well as non-teaching staff, besides deans of various departments, also participated in the peaceful protest.
