Shopian gunfight: Three militants killed, army man injured

Srinagar: Three militants have been killed and an army man was injured in a gunfight at Handew area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The gunfight broke out after a joint team of army’s 44 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search operations this afternoon at Handew village.

A police officer said that three militants were killed in the gunfight and an army man sustained bullet injuries during the operation. The injured personnel was taken to nearby army’s health facility for treatment where from he was shifted to army’s 92 base hospital Badamibagh Srinagar.

The officer said that the bodies of the slain militants have been recovered along with arms and ammunition. The officer said that the identity and group affiliation of the slain is being ascertained.

It was the third gunfight of the day.

Earlier, a gunfight broke out in the Kandi forests of district Kupwara.

Earlier, in Pulwama’s Dalipora area, three militants including top commander pf Jaish-e-Mohammad were killed in a pre-dawn gunfight. A civilian, identified as Rayees Ahmad Dar was also killed. An army man too was killed.
