Short war with Iran is an illusion: Foreign Minister Zarif to Trump
Iran has dismissed United States’s claim that a war between the two will be short lived.
“‘Short war’ with Iran is an illusion,” Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran’s Foreign Minister wrote on Twitter on Thursday, a day after Trump said he did not want a war with Iran but warned that if fighting did break out, it “wouldn’t last very long”.

Iran had set Thursday as a deadline to surpass the agreed 300-kilogram reserve of enriched uranium because it no longer felt bound by certain limits contained in the 2015 deal, which the United States unilaterally pulled out of in May 2018.“They won’t exceed it today,” the diplomatic source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP in Vienna on the eve of a meeting by a commission that oversees the nuclear deal.
The source suggested there might be a “political reason” for this, given intensified efforts by European governments in recent days to de-escalate tensions in the Gulf region.
After Iran downed a US unmanned drone recently, the country’s parliamentary speaker had warned the United States against violating the country’s borders cautioning such a move would draw a “stronger” reaction.
Recently, President of Iraq, Barham Salih has said that under no circumstance, United States will be allowed to use their bases in Iraq to attack Iran.
In a interview to CNN, Salih said, “We do not want our territory to be a staging post for any hostile action against any of our neighbors, including Iran. This is definitely not part of the agreement between the Iraqi government and the United States.”
