Minor girl allegedly raped in Kathua, family accuses 50-year-old man, police files FIR

A 13-year-old minor girl has been allegedly raped in ​​Kathua district of Jammu Kashmir. After a video went viral on social media in which a man, a relative of the minor, can be seen accusing a 50-year-old of raping a minor, the police has registered a case and arrested the accused.

The incident happed on June 15 in Boda area of Kathua. The family of the minor girl, who belongs to the Muslim nomad community, has accused the man of threatening to kill the girl after raping her. As per the family, the accused named Bapu used an axe to threaten her.

The family says the girl had gone to the forests for grazing the animals when the incident happened.

In the video, the relative of the minor girl alleges that the accused was harassing the minor for the past few months.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case in this regard at a local police station and the accused has been arrested. Investigations in the case are going on and the accused has been arrested, police has said.

The family has also accused the Panch and the local Sarpanch of the area of trying to silence them.

Kathua was in news after a minor girl from the Muslim nomad community was raped in 2018, following which protests spread across Kashmir. After the incident got politicised, members of the Hindu group IkJutt Jammu had rallied in support of the rapists, holding the Indian flag.

Many activists who raised the issue were harassed and attacked, even as Jammu’s bar association supported the rapists.
