India records 37,724 fresh COVID infections, 648 deaths in last 24 hours

India on Wednesday recorded a spike of 37,724 fresh COVID infections taking the total number of cases in the country to 11,92,915. In last 24 hours, India has reported 648 fatalities due to Coronavirus taking the total death toll to 28,732.

Presently, there are 4,11,133 active cases in India. The number of cured/discharged/migrated cases stands at 7,53,050, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst hit Indian state with a caseload of 3,27,031 , followed by Tamil Nadu and Delhi with 1,80,643 and 1,25,096 cases of COVID infections respectively.

Meanwhile, infections in Karnataka too have been increasing and now stand at 71, 069. Karnataka Chief Minister, B S Yediyurappa said there would never be another lockdown in Bengaluru or any other part of the state as it was impacting state revenues. He appealed to people to practice social distancing and wear masks, The Indian Express reported. 

India continues to be third worst hit country in the world preceded by Brazil and US. The total number of COVID cases worldwide has crossed 15 million and 9.1 million have recovered.
