Bureaucrat Tasaduq Jeelani dies of COVID infection

Srinagar: Top Bureaucrat and Special Secretary, Social Welfare Department Tasaduq Jeelani has died of COVID infection on Friday.

Reports said that Jeelani was admitted at JVC SKIMS Bemina.

Confirming his death, Principal JVC SKIMS Bemina Dr Reyaz Untoo told news agency KNT that Tasaduq Jeelani died of post-COVID complications.

“The cause of death was cardiopulmonary arrest,” Untoo said adding that Jeelani had been admitted in the hospital on 14 July this month and he died after a battle of 18 days.

Untoo said Jeelani, admitted in the ICU of JVC hospital, was a diabetic patient as well.

On his death, Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu has expressed grief over the untimely demise of senior KAS Officer Tasaduq Jeelani.

“He was a dedicated officer who worked with zeal and enthusiasm. It’s unfortunate that we lost him so early,” he said.

In a condolence message, the Lt Governor has prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and forbearance to the bereaved family at this hour of grief.

Former JK Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also condoled the Jeelani’s death and prayed for his departed soul.

In his condolence message, District Magistrate Srinagar Shahid Choudhary wrote: “I find it difficult to share, our colleague Tasaduq Jeelani has lost battle against Covid. He had responded well, tested negative too but couldn’t overcome post Covid complications. May his soul rest in peace.”

On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir reported 490 fresh COVID cases, thus taking the total number of positive cases in JK to 20359.

The spokesman of the administration in a statement said that 12 deaths were also reported- 02 from Jammu division and 10 from Kashmir.

Moreover, 375 more patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 78 from Jammu Division and 297 from Kashmir.
