Srinagar: Pakistan High Court (HC), in a capital city Islamabad, on Monday, adjourned the hearing in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case till September 3, saying India should be given a chance to appoint a lawyer to defend Jadhav’s death sentence for his alleged involvement in espionage in Pakistan.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the High Court of Pakistan while stipulating that the lawyer should be a Pakistan national instructed the country’s government to allow Indian authorities to appoint the legal representative for Jadhav in the case.

Quoting, Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan who spoke to the media reporters in Pakistan, the report said that Pakistan HC has given no option so far to allow Indian lawyers in order to assist the Pakistani legal team for Jadhav’s case.

The court said that another chance should be given to the Indian government and to Kulbushan Jadhav for arranging a lawyer. The offer to the lawyer will be made through Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Earlier on July 22, Pakistan government had approached the Islamabad High Court seeking to appoint a counsel for Kulbhushan Jadhav in order to implement the verdict of International Court of Justice (ICJ).

On July, 19, a day after Indian officials met Kulbhushan Jadhav in Islamabad Pakistan after being granted second consular access, Pakistan offered India third consular access to meet Jadhav.

Pakistan had given first consular access to India in September 2019 after an order from the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
