India prepared for long haul with China, deployment during winters: Army briefs Parliamentary panel
Srinagar: Amid the rising tensions between India and China, along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, the top Indian military officers have briefed a Parliamentary panel about Chinese “aggression” and said the Indian side was prepared for a long haul with China.
The officers have said that the Indian army was also ready for deployment during harsh winters in the eastern Ladakh sector.
According to a report by news agency IANS, the meeting headed by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, along with many top military officers, informed the panel that de-escalation between India and China may take more time. However, the Indian side assured its preparedness in case of any eventuality.
On June 15, as many as 20 Indian armed forces personnel were killed in a violent clash with the Chinese troops in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley.
According to reports, Chinese troops have been sitting in Indian areas and several other friction points along the LAC and have refused to disengage since mid-July.
Quoting sources, the report said that Major-level talks between the two countries are taking place at Daulat Beg Oldie for the de-escalation of troops and material in the Depsang plains.
The Indian side is being led by General Officer Commanding of 3 Mountain Division, Major General Abhijit Bapat.
Pertinently, India and China have held five rounds of Corps Commander level talks but they have not been able to find any solution to change the actual ground position in many areas.
