Labourer involved in sand extraction drowns in river Jhelum

Srinagar: Four out of five labourers who went missing after a boat involved in sand extraction capsized in Karnabal Samboora area of Pulwama district, were rescued while another is still missing.

Reports said that five labourers were extracting sand through a boat in River Jehlum at Karnabal Kakapora. However, when a boat capsized, all of the labourers boarded on boat drowned.

Soon after the incident, four among them were rescued and searches for the fifth labourer are going on.

“Search for one missing person is going on, police is on the job,” said SHO Kakapora.

The missing labourer has been identified as Irshad Ahmad Sheikh, 21, son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Laroo Kakapora.
