Kashmiri photojournalist says police vandalised his house, harassed his family
Srinagar: Srinagar-based photojournalist, Idrees Abbas, has alleged that the Jammu and Kashmir Police vandalised his house and beat up his father while chasing away Shia Muslim mourners in Srinagar’s Alamgari Bazar on Friday evening.
Abbas tweeted about the incident saying that the police attacked his house, and harassed his family.
“Brutality at the peak. Police forces attacked my house, broke one of our window of my house, harassed my family without any reason at Alamgari Bazar,” he had tweeted soon after the incident.

Abbas was back home after covering a Muharram procession, when the police were chasing away the mourners who attempted to take out a procession in Zadibal area of the city, barged into his house.
Abbas says that his father was hit with a Lathi and fainted, after which he had to be taken to a hospital.

Police has said, that they are verifying the details, and they are investigating the case.
Authorities had imposed restrictions in parts of Kashmir to disallow the religious Muharram processions.
Earlier, at least twenty mourners, who were a part of a Muharram procession heading towards an Imambara, in central Kashmir’s Budgam district were injured after police reportedly resorted to aerial firing and tear-gas shelling on the crowd.
