Father of Burhan Wani hospitalised after developing breathing issues, tests positive for COVID

Srinagar: Muzaffar Wani, father of Burhan Wani, has been hospitalised after he contracted the deadly Corona Virus and has been under observation at SKIMS for a week now.

The health condition of Muzaffar Wani, the father of popular Hizb commander Burhan Wani, who has been admitted at SKIMS in Srinagar, is stable, as per doctors.

Muzaffar Wani who has difficulty in breathing, while speaking to Free Press Kashmir, said that he contracted the deadly virus on September 16, and was then taken to Pulwama hospital.

He was later referred to SKIMS after his health condition deteriorated and he developed breathing problems.

At SKIMS, Wani said he is surviving on injections and requires oxygen to breathe properly.

Besides Muzaffar Wani, his father, wife and mother are also COVID positive and were tested a few days ago. Muzaffar Wani’s mother is admitted at the same hospital while his wife and father are in quarantine at home.

Burhan Wani was killed in a military operation in 2016, and his killing was followed by a popular uprising in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the erstwhile state Jammu and Kashmir reported 1,141 fresh novel coronavirus cases in last 24 hours, taking the total count to 72190, officials said on Sunday.

Among the fresh cases including 47 travellers, 689 were from Jammu division and 452 from Kashmir, they said. Since September 3, the Jammu and Kashmir has consistently recorded over a thousand cases every day.

Giving district-wise break of the cases, officials said that Srinagar reported 181, Budgam 61, Baramulla 34, Pulwama 35, Anantnag 30, Bandipora 33, Kupwara 45, Ganderbal 12, Kulgam 8, Shopian 13, Jammu 324, Rajouri 49, Udhampur 36, Kathua 51, Doda 41, Samba 38, Poonch 46, Ramban 21, Reasi 39 and Kishtwar 44.

Moreover, they said, 1365 more COVID patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals— 797 from Jammu division and 568 from Kashmir.
