Sikkim: As the standoff between India and China continues at Line of Actual Control, the Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh on Sunday performed ‘Shastra Puja’ on the occasion of Dussehra with country’s armed forces personnel in Sikkim.

Shastra Puja is a ritual performed by the Hindus annually around the time of Dussehra.

According to a report by Times Now, Rajnath Singh said that India wants the Indo-China border tension to end and peace preserved.

“I am confident that our army will not let anyone take even an inch of our land,” the report quoted Singh as having said.

Singh performed the ‘Shastra Puja’ with the armed forces personnel at the Nathula Pass near the China border along with Indian Army Chief General MM Narwane.

Reports said that Defence Minister will also meet the armed forces personnel close to Nathula Pass and address them.

Meanwhile, Singh also inaugurated a road constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in Sikkim, via video conferencing from Sukna, Darjeeling. He inaugurated the Alternate Alignment Gangtok – Nathula Road via video conferencing from the Headquarters of 33 Corps in Sukna, Darjeeling.

The report added that India has deployed close to 60,000 armed forces personnel to counter the Chinese Army that moved troops to allegedly transgress into Indian areas in Pangong Lake and other adjoining locations.
