#JournalismIsNotACrime: Armed forces assault journalists in Anantnag, one hospitalised

Srinagar: In the ongoing fifth phase of DDC elections, three journalists were beaten by armed forces in Srigufwara area of south Kashmiri’s Anantnag district on Thursday.

Fayaz Ahmad Stringer of ETV Bharat alleged that he along with other two journalists were beaten by the police while reporting.

Fayaz Ahamd said, “I took byte of a local ‘PAGD’ candidate who alleges that he was not allowed to cast his vote, and I then contacted SSP Anantnag for the official version.”

He says that along with other journalists Mudasir Qadri of NEWS 18 and Junaid Ahmad of TV-9 were beaten and all the equipments were seized.

We are under detention; Junaid is hospitalized in Srigufwara hospital, he added.

The Kashmir Press Club has strongly condemned the thrashing of three journalists, by the police in South Kashmir.

The Kashmir Press Club termed this incident ‘unfortunate’ and called for a thorough inquiry into the incident.

“We hope strict action against is taken against those found guilty in this act perpetrated in utter disregard of the freedom of the press. The KPC further urges the Chief Electoral Officer to take note of such incidents and initiate action against the concerned police official,” it said in a statement.
