Detention of PDP leaders in Anantnag unwarranted: CPI (M)
Srinagar: CPI (M) Secretary Ghulam Nabi Malik on Monday termed the detention of senior PDP leaders Sartaj Madni and Peerzada Mansoor Hussain by a “Central agency” in Anantnag as unwarranted and uncalled for and demanded their immediate release.
The detentions have come just a day before the results of district development council (DDC) polls which is sheer political vendetta. Rule of law is being flouted with impunity in Jammu and Kashmir.
The need was to restore the democratic rights of people but instead, civil liberties are being curtailed which adds to the disillusionment of people, the party said in a statement.
Earlier, two senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders, including the maternal uncle of JK’s former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, were “detained”, PDP said on Monday. The detained include Sartaj Madani, uncle of Mufti, and Peer Mansoor.
In June this year, authorities had revoked PSA detention against the duo together alongside former IAS officer-turned-politician Shah Faesal.
“Total lawlessness as PDPs Sartaj Madni & Mansoor Hussain have been arbitrarily detained today on the eve of DDC election results. Every senior police officer here is clueless as it is ‘upar say order’. No rule of law in J&K anymore. It is out & out Gunda Raj,” Mehbooba Mufti said in a tweet.
