Man strangulates wife to death following scuffle over Mehar in Bandipora, arrested: Police

Bandipora: Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday claimed to have solved a murder case within a week by arresting the accused person involved in the commission of a crime in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

In a statement, police said that on December 21, 2020, Police Post Ajas received a written complaint from a resident of Laharwalpora Bandipora wherein he stated that his daughter  who was married to Shabir Ahmad Pahloo, son of Nazir Ahmad Pahloo, a resident of SK Payeen Bandipora has been killed by her husband.

It said, accordingly, a case vide FIR No 177/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Sumbal and investigation was taken up.

Subsequently, a special team headed by DO Police Post Ajas recovered the dead body. After completing all medico-legal formalities the body was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites, the police statement added.

During the course of the investigation, police officers came to know that the husband of the deceased woman identified as Shabir Ahmad Pahloo is involved in the commission of the crime. After strenuous efforts and swift action of the police, the accused person was arrested.

During questioning, the accused admitted that during the intervening night of 20-21 December the duo was engaged in a scuffle over Mehar and Golden ornaments and he strangulated his wife to death.

He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. Further investigation in the case is going on, police said.
