Srinagar: Twitter on Friday blocked the Twitter handle of a Srinagar-based news magazine The Kashmir Walla citing “violation of Twitter rules against posting media depicting the moment of death of an individual”.

The move came after the news organisation tweeted a news story from August 2020 about “police excesses on Muharram procession in Srinagar”.

“Even after 24 hours of appealing to Twitter Support, the weekly newspaper has received no response so far from the Jack Patrick Dorsey owned company,” The Kashmir Walla reported.

Highlighting the plight, the editor of the magazine, Fahad Shah, tweeted that the Twiter handle of his organisation was locked because of a news feature that the magazine had reported and shared on the Twitter profile.

“The media was an urgent news story of police brutality against unarmed civilians during a religious procession that
@tkwmag reported in Aug 2020. The tweet doesn’t encourage violence but is an important documentation of the use of violence against unarmed civilians. @TwitterIndia,” Shah tweeted.
