Drone attack in Jammu: Use of drones, flying toys by public banned in Rajouri

People Already In Possession of Such Objects Asked To Deposit Them With Police

Jammu: In the aftermath of twin blasts at Indian Air Force station in Jammu, District administration in Rajouri district have banned storage, sale, possession, use, and transportation of drones and flying objects or toys in the frontier district with immediate effect.

“It has been observed that the Anti-National elements are using drones and flying objects to cause damage, injury and risk to the human lives in certain parts of the Union Territory,” Reads an order by Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan.

It has also been noticed that for the last 10-15 years, the domestic use of small drone cameras has also increased in the society for capturing photos and videos in the social and cultural gatherings, he said.

Particularly, he said, the youth are more fascinated to have use of drone-like toys and electronic gadgets.

“In the current situation to avoid any confusion and to secure the aerial space near the vital installations and highly populated areas, it is rationale and expedient to discontinue the use of any drone, small flying toys and objects in all social and cultural gatherings to eliminate any risk of injury to the life and property,” he said and imposed a ban and restrictions on the storage, sale, possession, use and transport of any drone or small flying objects or flying toys in the district.

“However, those having already the drone cameras/flying objects or toys or like objects in their possession shall get the same deposited with the local Police Station against proper receipt,” reads the order.

He said the government agencies using drones for mapping, surveys and surveillance should inform the local Police Station in Incharge and Executive Magistrate in advance.

“Any violation of this order shall attract punitive action as warranted under the relevant law,” he said and asked the senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri to ensure implementation of the order “in letter and spirit”.

On Wednesday, armed forces personnel in Jammu claim to have spotted the flying objects at three separate places in the division for the fourth consecutive. In Srinagar, reports claimed that drone was spotted flying over the airport in Srinagar.

The drone was spotted by Border Security Force around 2:30 am, the report said quoting sources, adding BSF opened few rounds of fire also but the drone went into the darkness.

In Jammu, forces personnel have spotted the flying objects at three separate places for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday. The drones, according to reports, were seen hovering over Miran Sahib, Kaluchak and Kunjwani areas of Jammu, where military has significant presence, in the wee hours today.

Earlier, in a first-of-its-kind attack, drones were used to drop explosives at IAF station in Jammu on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Later, National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the investigation of the attack.
