Flash floods damage several residential houses in Ganderbal, MeT predicts more deluges in hilly areas

Ganderbal: A cloudburst hit Watlar area of Lar in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district in the wee hours on Monday, triggering flash floods, which caused damage to several residential houses and many inner roads in the area.

An official said that flash floods triggered by a cloudburst lashed several residential houses and roads in Watlar village, causing significant damage. However, there was no report of any loss of life in the incident.

He said that due to the cloudburst flow of water increased in Charnari Nallah, several houses were damaged.

A revenue official said that they have sent teams to the area to ascertain the details of damage caused by flash floods.

Meanwhile, Director of Meteorological Department , Sonam Lotus, said that rains occurred on expected lines and more were in store for both Jammu and Kashmir regions.

“As expected very heavy shower occurred at many places of plains of Jammu whereas moderate shower (has been) reported at many places of Kashmir and hilly area of Jammu,” he said, adding, “Today, the weather will remain overcast to cloudy at most places of J&K.”

He said the present shower may generate “flash floods” and landslides in hilly areas which may lead to road blockades.
