In Pictures: Muharram, beyond mourning

Posted on

During the month of Muharram, the Shia community come out with processions across Kashmir.

They mourn, wave flags and banners, and recite Nawa while walking across the length and breadth of Kashmir.

Volunteers work together during this period carrying the “message of justice and peace” on these banners hoisted across the region including places like Pulwama, Budgam, Baramulla and Srinagar.

The JK administration had announced that the Muharram procession will be allowed this year after a ban of 30 years. But the administration imposed restrictions, which led to clashes in many places.
