Srinagar: A Special Court in Srinagar on Saturday granted bail to two out of five accused arrested by police in connection with running a ‘threatening’ blog ‘kashmirfight’.

Pertinently, in the middle of the August police had claimed that it arrested five persons including Secretary Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Sofi Akbar, and his two children for their alleged role in threatening social activists, political leaders, Government officers and journalists.

Police had identified the arrested persons as Secretary SMC, Sofi Muhammad Akbar from Rajbagh, his daughter Advocate Nazish Yasrab Rehman and his son Tabish Akbar Rehman from Sanatnagar, Peerzada Raqif Makhdoomi from Batpora in Hazratbal and Javed Khalid fiancé of Sofi’s daughter Nazish Yasrab Rehman.

Court sources said that Counsel for the accused sought bail on certain grounds while the court said that grounds invoked by Counsel in bail application make the accused entitled for the bail.

The court subsequently granted bail to Advocate Nazish Yasrab Rehman and her would-be husband Javed Khalid with some conditions and directed Central Jail Srinagar authorities to release the accused wanted in the FIR number 82/2020 under sections 13,16,18,20 ULAP Act. (KNT)
