Budgam: A civilian on Tuesday evening sustained injury allegedly after army personnel fired at him while he tried to escape on being called by the armed forces at Charihar area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

The injured civilian has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Rather, son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather.

The incident was reported after armed forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation in the adjoining area amid reports of the “presence of militants”.

A police officer told news agency Global News Service that the injured civilian was later shifted to hospital for treatment.

However, police in a statement stated that the civilian was injured after “militants fired upon” armed forces in Lassipora Khag.

“Militants fired upon the armed forces while on an operational duty near village Lassipora Khag in which the civilian, Bilal Ahmad Rather of Charihar received an injury in the leg,” the police said.

“The injured civilian is stable now,” they said, adding, “The area adjacent to the place of incident is under cordon and search is going on.” (GNS)
