Srinagar: After authorities handed over the bodies of two civilians from Srinagar to their respective families, political leaders including former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti have been demanding that the body of third civilian Amir Magray should also be handed over to his family.

Mehbooba Mufti took her Twitter handle saying that Amir Magray also killed in Hyderpora encounter is yet to be given a decent burial by his mourning family.

She said the fact that these families are begging for mortal remains instead of asking for justice reflects their lack of faith in the system. His body must be returned immediately.

Another PDP leader Mohit Bhan wrote: “Let’s not forget a poor father is waiting for the mortal remains of his son Amir 3rd civilian of Hyderpora encounter. I appeal the political leadership, journalists, activists to stand with him & seek justice for him. Least we can give Amir is a burial with respect & dignity.”

National Conference senior leader Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi also took to twitter and talked about Amir, a resident of Ramban district.

“Is Amir Magray’s body returned to his family? And if not, why? Does the administration and also we (the society) think he was child of a lesser mortal? And what about the identity and details of the 4th one killed? Or was there a 4th one? Was there even a combatant among them?,” Ruhullah questioned.

With regard to Hyderpora encounter police said that four persons, including a Pakistani militant and his local associate, were killed in the military operation but the families of the three locals claimed that their kin were civilians.

The bodies of two civilians Altaf Ahmed Dar and Mudasir Gul were exhumed and subsequently handed over to their families while the family of Amir has been demanding his body for decent burial. (KNT)
