New Delhi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday said that Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi should accept that “his brainchild demonetisation has totally failed and destroyed small-scale industries”.

Owaisi’s reaction came over perfume trader Piyush Jain’s arrest. He was arrested on Sunday after raids at his residence in Kanpur and residence and factory in Kannauj by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) led to the recovery of about Rs 257 crore in cash, 25 kg of gold, and 250 kg of silver.

The Finance Ministry of India later said that it was the “biggest ever seizure of cash” by an enforcement agency of India.

The trader was produced in metropolitan court number 10 amid tight security and the court remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.

Owaisi added, “Prime Minister should tell how cash worth Rs 180 crores can be found at the residence of a businessman in Uttar Pradesh, despite demonetisation? Prime Minister should accept that his brainchild demonetisation has totally failed and that it has destroyed small-scale industries and jobs.”
