Pulwama: Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday claimed to have identified the three Jaish-e-Mohammad militants killed in a military operation in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
In a statement, police said, “Acting on specific input regarding presence of militants in village Chandgam area of Pulwama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 55RR and 182Bn CRPF in the said area.”
During the operation, the police said, “As the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an operation.”
Three militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of operation. Among the killed militants two have been identified as Mir Owais, a resident of Ashmander Pulwama and a Pakistani national Talha Yasir linked with proscribed militant outfit JeM. Regarding the third slain, although the recoveries made from the site of operation indicate him to be a foreigner however his identification is being ascertained, police said.
Police said, “Slain militants were part of the group involved in several militancy crime cases including attacks on armed forces and civilian atrocities. Several militancy-related crime cases were registered against both the slain. Owais was involved in the killing of a civilian namely Azad Ahmad Dar of Kangan Pulwama. The killed Pakistani militant Talha was the mastermind in preparation of Vehicle-borne IEDs besides, involved in the attack on civilian at Wanpora area of Pulwama”.
Incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition including 02 M-4 Carbine and 01 AK series rifle were recovered from the site of operation. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation, the statement added.
