Sarpanch killing: Involved militant associates arrested, says police

Kulgam: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have busted a Hizbul Mujahideen module involved in the recent killing of Sarpanch from south Kashmir Shabir Ahmed Mir and arrested three militant associates actively involved in the act.

“Kulgam Police busted module of HM out involved in recent killing of Sarpanch Shabir Ahmad Mir & arrested 03 militant associates’ actively involved and recovered incriminating materials including 02 Pistols on their disclosure,” Inspector General of Police (IGP ) Kashmir range Vijay Kumar said.

“Vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized. During investigation, it was learnt that the Sarpanch was killed by HM militant Mushtaq Yatoo on the directions of HM Chief militant Farooq Nalli,” he added.

On Friday evening, police said militants shot dead a Sarpanch in Kulgam. The Sarpanch identified as Shabir Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Abdullah was attacked in his native village of Adoora.

Shabir’s killing was the second killing of a Panchayat member with a gap of two days in the Valley, as on March 9, police said militants barged inside the house of a Sarpanch Sameer Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Rasheed Bhat, and shot him dead in Khonmoh area in outskirts of Srinagar.
