Srinagar: Senior Congress politician Dr Karan Singh on Monday said democracy is immaterial without ‘elections. He said there should be elections in Jammu and Kashmir and it is the demand from all political parties.

“I have heard that there will be elections in March but I am not sure as I have only heard this and it is not an official statement,” Dr Karan Singh said.

While talking to reporters, Singh said his thoughts are unclear about the inclusion of non-local voters in Jammu and Kashmir. “It is a strange matter. Some say non-local voters are being enrolled in lakhs and others say in thousands. I don’t know about it,” he said.

Expressing satisfaction over the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ by Rahul Gandhi, Singh said that it is also good to see elections being conducted in the Congress party and these are happening after a long time.

In response to a question, he said that post abrogation a lot of claims are being made but the ground reality is something different.

“Yes, one thing that I am witness to is that Dal Lake has become crystal clean. It was heartening to see this lake on the verge of death, but I am happy and have seen myself, this lake is being revived and this thing happened after 2019. Other decisions implemented in Jammu and Kashmir may take time,” he added. (KNT)
