AMU student from JK critical at ICU after being hit on head, attacker arrested

The victim student Sajid is said to be critical at ICU and his head surgery is scheduled for tomorrow.

Aligarh: A student from Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch was seriously injured after being hit on the head by a fellow student during an altercation at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Jammu and Kashmir Students Association confirmed to Free Press Kashmir.

The incident occurred when the victim student identified as Sajid Hussian, a B Tech student, was playing cricket and during an altercation with a fellow player Shobit Singh, who is also his classmate, hit Sajid on the head with a cricket bat.

They are in their second year and both live in the Nadeem Tareen Hall hostel. The attacker is a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

“The attack was sudden which caused grievous injuries on Sajid’s head and other vital body parts,” reads a document from the office of Proctor, AMU Aligarh, accessed by Free Press Kashmir.

The injured student has been admitted to the hospital as he is critical and the attacker has been arrested, the document said, while Sajid continues to be in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

An FIR 602 /2022, under Section 504 and 307 of IPC has been registered. The accused has been sent to Jail and has been suspended by university authorities as well.

Earlier, as the news of the incident spread on the campus, a large group of students gathered at the Shatabdi Gate of the varsity, demanding immediate action against the attacker.
