FIFA World Cup 2022: Qatar welcomes football fans with Quran recitation

Quran reciter Ghanim Al Muftah along with Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman on the sets of FIFA World Cup 2022 event.

Qatar welcomed football fans with a Quran recitation on Sunday during the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2022. 20-year-old, Quran reciter Ghanim Al Muftah, who is also a FIFA World Cup ambassador, recited the verses from the Holy Quran.

He read, “Oh mankind, indeed we have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.”

This was the first time in history that a Quranic verse was recited at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup.

Al Muftah, whose lower spine was impaired due to a rare condition, was not alone.  was also a part of the celebration. During the recitation, Morgan sat on the pitch beside Al Muftah.

The country’s Emir opened the World Cup. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani welcomed everyone to the World Cup 2022. Fireworks exploded from the roof of Al Bayt stadium, Khaleej Times reported.

“From Qatar, from the Arab world, I welcome everyone to the World Cup 2022,” Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said.

“How lovely it is that people can put aside what divides them to celebrate their diversity and what brings them together.” Following this, attendees were stunned by fireworks seen through the roof of Al Bayt stadium.
