Manipal University suspends professor for calling Muslim student 'terrorist' in classroom. A screen grab of the video.

Manipal: A professor at Bengaluru’s Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) was suspended by the institution after he referred to a Muslim student as a ‘terrorist’ during a class. The action against the professor came after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

In the viral video, the student is seen confronting the professor when, after the latter called him a ‘terrorist’ during the class. The incident took place on Friday, November 26.

The video shows a student questioning the professor over his remarks as the latter defends it by saying that the student is like his son.

“Will you talk to your son like that? Will you call him by the name of a terrorist?,” argues the student as the professor is heard to be apologising in the video.

“Being a Muslim and facing this everyday is not funny,” the student can be heard saying in the video.

After the video went viral, MIT suspended the professor and ordered an internal inquiry.

The statement issued by MIT, Karnataka, read, “The institute has already initiated an inquiry into the incident and the concerned staff has been debarred from classes till the inquiry is over. We would like everyone to know that the institute does not condone this kind of behaviour and this isolated incident will be dealt with in accordance with the laid down policy.”

“The institute prides itself with one of the biggest diversity on campus and is committed to uphold our constitutional values of treating everyone alike, irrespective of their caste, religion, region, gender etc,” it added.
