Over 1,600 employees being fired per day in 2023 by tech companies globally, reveals data

Over 1,600 employees are being fired per day in 2023 by tech companies globally, including in India, recent data has revealed.

These mass layoff incidents are increasing across the globe amid fears about global recession and slowdown, Economic Times reported.

In the fifteen days of this month, around 91 companies have laid off more than 24,000 tech employees, signalling worse days ahead, the report said.

In 2022, over 1,000 companies laid off more than 1.5 lakh employees, as per the data from Layoffs.fyi.

Several big companies in the tech sector, including the likes of Meta, Amazon, Twitter, Better.com, Alibaba laid off employees. Indian companies were no strangers to this phenomenon.

Social media company ShareChat laid off 20 per cent of its workforce due to uncertain market conditions, affecting more than 500 employees.

Companies like Ola (which fired 200 employees) and voice-automated startup Skit.ai also dominated the headlines

Homegrown quick-grocery delivery provider Dunzo has laid off 3 per cent of its workforce amid cost-cutting measures.

Global e-commerce giant Amazon announced its intentions to lay off 18,000 employees globally, including nearly 1,000 in India, the report added.
