Cop dies of gunshot injuries in Anantnag, police begins probe

Anantnag: A police constable died of gunshot injuries at Hiller area of Kokernag in Anantnag district on Wednesday, officials said.

An official said that a police constable identified as Umer Farooq of Poonch from the 18th battalion IRP posted in Anantnag had received gunshot injuries in Hiller area.

He said that Umer was shifted to SDH Achabal where he succumbed to his injuries.

A doctor from SDH Achabal confirmed that he succumbed to injuries during treatment.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance and started an investigation in this regard to ascertain whether it is a case of suicide or something else.
