New Delhi: On Sunday, Delhi police raided the house of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and served a fresh notice to him over his remark during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar that “women are still being sexually assaulted”. Police claimed that it wanted information about victims he had spoken to in Jammu and Kashmir.

However, Gandhi described the action as unprecedented but said he would give a detailed response within 10 days.

A team led by special commissioner of police (law and order) Sagar Preet Hooda, visited Gandhi’s residence at 12, Tughlaq Lane around 10 am and asked him to provide details of the sexual abuse survivors he had claimed to have met during the yatra. “We served a notice, which was accepted by his office,” said Hooda, as per Times of India.

Police said the Congress leader, in a 10-point preliminary reply to the notice, sought 8-10 days to give a detailed response. “Gandhi told us he met many people during his yatra. He needs time to compile it (the list),” Hooda said, adding that it was “a very serious matter”.

According to reports, Gandhi in his reply termed the move “unprecedented” and questioned the sudden “urgency” in taking action 45 days after his remark. He also asked if any other campaigns by other parties, including BJP, have been subjected to such kind of scrutiny or questioning.
“A reply has been received from Rahul Gandhi, but no information has been shared by him that can take the investigation forward,” said an official.

On January 30, the Congress leader claimed in Srinagar that during the Bharat Jodo yatra, he had met several women who told him they had been sexually assaulted and that their relatives had also molested them
