Agha Syed Mehdi offers prayer at Jamia Masjid Srinagar
Srinagar: Agha Dr Syed Mehdi Alizada Mousavi, a special representative of Iran’s leader Ayatollah Khamenei, who is in Kashmir, today offered Zuhr prayer at the historic Central Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
The officials and staff of Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid as per the statement issued to the Kashmir News Service accorded him a warm welcome on his arrival.
On the occasion, Dr Syed Mehdi hailed the unique architecture of the Jama Masjid and the beauty of this great place of worship.
However, he expressed his regret that the Anjuman head Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq has been kept under detention for the past nearly four years, due to which the pulpit and minaret of the historical place of worship are silent.
He also regretted not being able to meet and exchange ideas with Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir due to his detention.
On the occasion, Dr Syed Mehdi was presented with the history of Anjuman Auqaf and other scholarly gifts as well as a Kashmiri shawl on behalf of the detained Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
Earlier, he also visited the historic educational institution Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam and the institutes running under it including the Islamia Oriental College, Anjuman’s library, historic building and auditorium of Islamia High School. He got acquainted with the history of one of the oldest educational institutions in Kashmir.
While talking to the officials of the Anjuman, Dr Syed Mehdi assured all possible support for the teaching of the Persian language in the Islamia Oriental College so that the understanding of this important language can be promoted far and wide.
The head of Peerwaan-e-Wilaayat Agha Syed Sabat Shabir Qumi was also present during Dr Syed Mehdi’s visit.
