Kulgam military Op: Slain militant identified, says police

Kulgam: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday identified a militant who was killed in a military operation in Hawoora area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir.

In a statement, the police spokesperosn said that acting on a specific input regarding the presence of a militant in village Hawoora area of Kulgam, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by JK Police, Army (1st RR) and CRPF (18 Bn) in the said area.

“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, in which one JK police personnel got injured who was subsequently shifted to hospital for treatment. The hiding militant was also given an opportunity to surrender; however, he kept on firing on the joint armed forces. The fire was effectively retaliated, leading to the operation.”

In the operation,  the local militant affilaited with Al-Badr was killed and his body was retrieved from the site. He has been identified as Adil Majeed Lone, son of Abdul Majeed Lone, a resident of Akbarabad Hawoora, Kulgam, said the spokesperson.

Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including pistol with live ammunition and a grenade were recovered from the site. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.

In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area at operation site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any, the police added.
