US claims air-strike in Iraq that killed five
On Monday, the US military said that it killed five militants who were in the process of preparing an attack drone targeting American forces in northern Iraq, international media reported.
The incident transpired near Kirkuk on December 3, with forces from the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) taking decisive action.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), as reported by the Anadolu Agency, the CJTF-OIR forces, acting in self-defense, engaged the group with an armed US unmanned aerial system, resulting in the termination of all five militants and the destruction of the imminent threat posed by the attack drone.
This comes in the wake of a series of rocket and drone strikes that the US has faced in Iraq and Syria since October 17, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the region.
