Imran Khan, wife sentenced to 14 years jail in Toshakhana case
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have received a 14-year jail sentence in the Toshakhana corruption case.
This ruling, delivered by Accountability Court Judge Mohammad Bashir at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, follows Imran Khan’s earlier sentencing to 10 years in prison for leaking sensitive state secrets.
The development poses a significant setback to Khan’s aspirations to return to power in the February 8 general elections.
In addition to the prison term, both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are barred from holding any public office for the next 10 years.
Furthermore, they face a substantial fine of Rs 787 million each.
The charges in the Toshakhana corruption case revolve around allegations that Khan failed to disclose information regarding gifts presented to Toshakhana and the purported “illegal” sale of some of these gifts.
It’s noteworthy that Bushra Bibi did not appear before the court during the hearing.
