Congress stands firm on Ayodhya verdict, dismisses Modi’s claims of reversal plans

Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

The Congress affirmed its support for the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and clarified that it has no intention of overturning it if the party comes into power, TOI reported.

This response was prompted by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi’s remarks at a rally in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, where he accused Rahul Gandhi of seeking to reverse the Ayodhya verdict.

The Congress emphasised that it has consistently maintained throughout the Ayodhya case that it would accept whatever decision the court reached. The party also alleged that the BJP was initially skeptical about the court’s involvement in the matter but later changed its stance to acknowledge the court’s authority.

Congress’s Pawan Khera, chairman of the media and publicity department, sharply reacted by stating, “A concerned Prime Minister today claimed that if Congress forms a government, it will reverse the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Ram Mandir. He forgot that it was only the Congress party which, from the outset to the conclusion of this controversy, adhered to its position that if this issue could not be resolved through amicable discussions, then the court’s decision would be acceptable to us.”
